Nintendo announces Wii price...

Thursday 25 May 2006
Nintendo has announced the launch price for Wii for the US and Japan but sadly hasn't revealed how much the console will cost in Europe or the UK.

In a statement released today, is was revealed that the price of Wii "will not exceed $250 in America or 25,000 yen in Japan" but all that was said about the European launch was that it will have a "similar, affordable price".

To give you a bit of guide how much it could be, $250 works out at £134 while 25,000 yen is equivalent to £119.

While it's disappointing that no UK launch price was announced, it is encouraging to see that Wii could well retail at around the £150 mark, which would work out as extremely good value, especially given the £425 price tag of PS3.

As for a launch date, the statement just reiterated that Nintendo hopes "to ship six million systems to retailers around the world between its launch in the fourth quarter of 2006 and the end of its fiscal year on 31 March 2007".
