Next-gen Deus Ex game first part of series' expanded 'Universe'
A next-gen Deus Ex game is in the works and Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut will arrive on Oct. 22 in North America and Oct. 25 in Europe for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, Eidos Montreal announced today. Studio head David Anfossi said in a blog post that the cyberpunk series is set to expand significantly over the next few years.
The PC and next-gen Deus Ex game will be the first part of Deus Ex: Universe, "an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games." The Universe will bridge multiple games with connected conspiracies and more regular content in the form of games, books, graphic novels, and more.
It sounds like the same sort of transmedia push Ubisoft and other publishers have done for a while now, with books, mobile games, and animated features filling out franchises like Assassin's Creed and Dead Space. We'll see if there's more to it than that, seeing as books and mobile games like Icarus Effect and The Fall have already expanded Deus Ex's media footprint.
Eidos Montreal isn't ready to say any more about its next project, but we'll let you know when we hear more.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
