The surprise PlayStation State of Play is over! Between this and the Nintendo Direct that aired earlier today, it's been like E3 all over again.

It certainly lived up to its promise of delivering "updates to previously announced games coming to PlayStation consoles", including "indie and PSVR 2 highlights, to major upcoming titles from our third-party partners", even if it was shorter than expected.

You can check below for the full array of everything announced at the PlayStation State of Play, or read on for the blow-by-blow as it happened.

EVERYTHING ANNOUNCED

Refresh

So let's get this party started with some PlayStation State of Play predictions shall we?

Horizon

Rollin logging on here to really kick things off for our PlayStation State of Play live coverage! First and foremost, there's been plenty of scuttlebutt about a PC version of Horizon Forbidden West releasing. A 'Complete Edition' was recently rated in Singapore and is seemingly due to release this year.

Adding fuel to the fire, well-known leaker billbil-kun also recently claimed that a PC version of Horizon Forbidden West was on the way. Exactly when that might release is anyone's guess at this point, but it does seem a likely candidate or today's PlayStation State of Play.

Looks like Helldivers 2 will make an appearance at PlayStation's State of Play today. How do I know? I know because PlayStation just xeeted it out.

In an extremely rude maneuver, PlayStation deleted its original xeet the moment I went to lunch, but joke's on them as I was still watching social media like a hawk.

There's pretty much no way that PlayStation makes it out of today's State of Play without at least some little morsel related to Marvel's Spider-Man 2, right? The upcoming game is set to release on October 20 for the PS5, and there's still plenty we don't know about the Marvel title.

Just over a month out seems like a good time to start showing off the various differences between the first game and its sequel in addition to, say, highlighting some other classic Marvel characters that could make an appearance.

Given how frequently the announcement for PlayStation's State of Play mentions "third-party releases" -- it's in the headline and a member of the Global Third Party Relations team wrote the dang article -- another easy guess for a title that seems likely to make an appearance is Assassin's Creed Mirage.

First and foremost, it's set to release on October 5 for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC. That puts it squarely within the window that the State of Play is covering. Secondly, Assassin's Creed Mirage previews went up earlier this week. It just seems like the sort of thing that Ubisoft would want to have happen together, right?

Speaking of third-party releases, there's still Alan Wake 2 on the horizon. Set to release on October 27, there's been plenty revealed by developer Remedy Entertainment so far... but when it comes to Alan Wake (and Remedy more broadly), there's almost certainly more going on that we've yet to even fathom.

At this point, more gameplay than has been previously been shown would be appreciated. Alan's been away for a long time, after all, and we've all still got questions.

Another explicitly referenced bit in the State of Play announcement is that there will be PS VR2 highlights. What that actually looks like, who knows, but it seems likely we'll get an update on titles initially revealed during the PlayStation Showcase in May like Arizona Sunshine 2 and Resident Evil 4 VR Mode.

The most likely announcements? Release dates for those two and then perhaps a couple more reveals of upcoming VR titles. It's been a bit of a slow drip for the VR headset, though, so we're not expecting anything that'll blow our socks off.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

I'm not going to pretend I, personally, know a whole lot about Call of Duty, but it does seem like we should hear more about Modern Warfare 3 during today's PlayStation State of Play, right?

The latest and greatest Call of Duty is set to release on November 10, and even if Xbox manages to gobble up Activision, it seems unlikely to change the course of this specific installment regardless. After all, there's that whole "binding agreement" to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation for 10 years.

This is all to say: Modern Warfare 3 seems like a gimme.

Given that a technical test for the PS5 version of Honkai: Star Rail was recruiting at the end of August, it seems like developer Hoyoverse might finally announce an official release date for that version of the popular free-to-play title. As of right now, the store listing simply states Q4 2023, but it might be a little more pointed here shortly...

With just 15 minutes to go, I hope we get a few surprise upcoming PS5 games reveals in there. I for one am still hoping for Little Devil Inside, that elusive indie game that's featured in many a PlayStation live stream.

With so many upcoming PSVR 2 games without release dates, that will also be something to keep track of this evening / morning / afternoon depending on your time zone.

Just four minutes to go now - and you can watch right here:

Anyone else hate waiting? The tease of the YouTube video saying "begin shortly"

I totally jinxed that didn't I? How we've got another countdown.

Here we go!!

First up we've got a man totally face down in the mud.

Oh it's Baby Steps - the game where you have to place every single footstep yourself.

As you'd image, it's chaos.

Loving the commentary on every step and the mad grapple laugh.

Roblox is coming to PS4 on October 10.

Interesting it's not coming to PS5, but it will have full crossplay support.

Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord is a good-looking PSVR 2 game and it now has an October 26 release date! That's soon!

Resident Evil 4 is coming to PSVR 2 - that we already knew, but now it's got a loose 'Winter 2023' launch window.

Resident Evil 4 is also getting DLC in the form of Separate Ways. coming September 21, 2023 - that's next week.

The Mercenaries is also getting a free update the very same day.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora up now.

This trailer definitely makes it looks like a fantastic world to exist in, although it's not a gameplay trailer but rather all about the story.

Although I say that and then they immediately showed some gameplay.

Helldivers 2 coming Feburary 8, 2024 to PS5 and PC.

Here comes Marvel's Spider-Man 2!

Queens and Brooklyn added to the map, a new traversal mechanic in the wingsuit-like Web Wing.

Can switch between the two characters at any point in the open world "almost instantly" thanks to the power of the PS5.

Over 65 suits from the comics, and over 200 different ways to outfit them

Lots of ways to upgrade your duo of Spider-Man by the looks too, from gadgets to abilities.

Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn is coming November 9, 2023

Is this going to be the PS5 release date for Honkai Star Rail?

Oh yes, Honkai Star Rail coming October 11 to PS5!

Foamstars Open Beta Party coming!

This is Square Enix's take on Splatoon, but with foam rather than paint.

Two game modes to enjoy, eight unique characters.
