Greetings and salutations!
Well here we are, after a galaxy wide search the SFX team have finally found their man… and he’s a geeky twentysomething by the name of Jordan Farley, with enough genre love to fill a thousand Death Stars. By way of introduction I should probably tell you a little about myself. I was born in northwest England and studied history at Cambridge before deciding academia wasn’t for me and learning the ropes of magazine journalism on a postgrad course at Cardiff University.
After being run through the proverbial wringer by Dave Bradley and the rest of the team I was offered a job on the greatest sci-fi mag known to mankind, and you couldn’t find a happier chap at a Megan Fox wet t-shirt show.
I’ve been a sci-fi fan all my life, even before I could form words or chew solid matter, gumming child-friendly Ghostbusters, He-Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures into a slimy oblivion. One of my fondest early memories is being taken to see Jurassic Park in the cinema aged seven. It’s easy to forget just how ubiquitous huge event films were in the day now that we’re living in an era where even the biggest films of the summer rarely get more than a week to shine.
I’m a compulsive collector with boxes full of Star Wars collectables and more theatrical one-sheets than the average multiplex. I have a stupidly large DVD collection (1,300 and counting!) which I am now diligently replacing with Blu-rays having been blown away by the likes of Wall-E and Blade Runner on the new format. I am borderline obsessed with Phillip K Dick, my favourite comic book hero is Batman and first person shooters are my videogaming forte.
I’ve been an avid SFX reader for the best part of ten years and feel honoured that my scribbles are soon to be found on its hallowed pages. My duties as Editorial Assistant include compiling your letters pages from time to time as well as Wishlist, organising the shiny competitions, writing the occasional feature and news story, and reviewing anything and everything that comes my way like a sci-fi hungry demon.
I can’t wait to meet you all on the forum and I hope I can live up to the sky-high standards you’ve come to expect from SFX.
