New Dimensions For Dimension Horror

Three interesting titbits arise from an article on Variety about horror specialist Dimension Films:
• First, director Patrick (My Bloody Valentine) Lussier has been picked to helm the third movie in the revived Halloween franchise, which will be made in 3D.
• Second, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen scribe Ehren Kruger has been hired to write a new adaptation of Stephen King’s short story Children Of The Corn, which has already been made into seven increasingly dire movies. This, though, will be a high profile reboot. "We felt the New World film was a missed opportunity," understates Dimension boss Bob Weinstein of the first Corn movie. "If you read the short story, it's got such a strong feeling to it and there's this religious overtone to it as well. Ehren wants to hit it hard. It's popular in Hollywood to say you re-envisioning a project but a lot of the time they're just carbon copying the original. We are bringing something new to the story."
• Finally, Weinstein reckons that Dimension’s upcoming The Road (pictured above), based on the 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Cormac (No Country For Old Men) McCarthy, "has the potential for awards”. Presumably he doesn’t mean in the make-up department, which is about the only category Dimension films normally would have a chance in. The film, which stars Viggo Mortensen and newcomer Kodi Smit-McPhee, features a trek through a post apocalyptic landscape, and the trailer isn't exactly a bundle of laughs.
