New Super 8 trailer online
Plus JJ Abrams talks
J.J. Abrams’ latest top secret movie Super 8 is out in cinemas in August, and he’s finally beginning to let a few cats out of the bag regarding the mysterious project.
The first comes in the release of a second trailer (an effective teaser was unveiled last year), which simultaneously has us chewing our fists in anticipation while still knowing basically nothing about the film.
One thing’s for certain: it’s extremely Spielbergian in look and feel. Note the young male protagonist, the promise of epic adventure, and sly out-of-this-world suggestions.

At the moment, the film’s looking like a period mash-up of E.T. and Signs , with a little War Of The Worlds thrown in for good measure.
Of course, nobody will find out anything solid about the film until it hits cinemas.
Meanwhile, Abrams spoke a little about Super 8 to Hero Complex , revealing that it’s “a movie about overcoming loss and finding your way again and finding your own voice.”
He addressed the tone of the film, noting: “I realised I had the potential makings of my favourite sort of movie, which is the one that is the hardest genre to define.
“That’s because you could say - and be right - that it’s a science fiction movie; or you could say - and be right - that it’s a love story; or you could say - and be right - that it’s a comedy; or you could say - and be right - that it’s a special-effects spectacle.
“That sort of cocktail is for me what I love about movies…that was the beginnings of this movie coming together.”
Super 8 opens 19 August.
