New RAGE screens look incredible, as expected

We wish we had something to say about RAGE other than, "OMG LOOK AT IT!" We don't really. If you want to know more about its story and gameplay, check out our most recent impressions. Both look solid enough so far, but neither appear to be especially unconventional or mind-blowing. We could be wrong.

What they definitely are, however, is completely overshadowed by id Tech 5, which is capable of producing visuals we can't help but tell you to look at after caps-lock yelling internet shorthand at you.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, because I've been given free rein to write whatever I feel like and there's nothing you can do to stop me: these screens are no joke. Last year I was floored after seeing the game running on an Xbox 360 in person. That was an awkward sentence. It sounds like I saw the game running on an Xbox 360 that someone ate. I could fix it, or just acknowledge the mistake and get on with telling you OMG LOOK ATTHESE NEW RAGE SCREENS!

The characters are especially lovely, though you really need to see them in action. The animations are stylized - they're not perfectly natural - but they're smooth and expressive, and the performers exude a certain je ne sais quoi that makes them believable and engrossing. You can see a bit of what I'm talking about in the 2009 QuakeCon trailer below.

RAGE is scheduled to release September 13, 2011 in North America, and September 15 in Europe. Get ready for some fancy pixels.
