Over recent months it's seemed as though the best way of keeping abreast of the latest super-hero movie developments has been by watching the merchandising tie-ins. That trend has continued today, with the release of a new wall poster for The Amazing Spider-Man .

Trends International is now stocking the new poster featuring The Lizard, the scaly alter-ego of Rhy Ifans’ barmy scientist, Curt Connors.

Up until this point, all we’ve seen of The Lizard is a few brief silhouettes in the official trailer , and a headshot on an RC car . Oh and then there was that Pez dispenser , of course…

However, this new poster gives us a pretty clear impression of what The Amazing Spider-Man ’s big bad is going to look like. At present, we’d say the jury’s out. On the one hand, he doesn’t look excessively cartoonish, on the other, he does look a little bland.

It’s probably unfair to judge however, before we’ve seen the finished article on the big screen. We won’t have long to wait, either, as The Amazing Spider-Man opens in the UK on 4 July 2012.
