New Nintendo HD console confirmed by 'multiple sources' for late 2012
Nintendo's new system 'not a gimmick,' claims anonymous source
The new system will allegedly be announced at or before this year's E3, and is scheduled to release in late 2012. Specifics on the device, such as its control mechanism, processing power, and branding, are unknown - informally, GI has been referring to the console as the 'Nintendo HD.'
"Nintendo is doing this one right," said one of GI's anonymous sources. "[It's] not a gimmick like the Wii."
Considering the Wii's declining sales and rumors of a coming price drop, we have every reason to believe that this information is legitimate, and were already expecting an E3 announcement. While Nintendo's innovation and marketing made the Wii the best-selling of the three devices, its technological limitations can only become more apparent as time passes, cutting its lifespan short compared to its competitors.
As the least powerful console on the market, the Wii cannot attract the same major third-party titles as the PS3 and Xbox 360, at least not in their primary forms. Its biggest release in the coming months is the first-party Wii Play: Motion, which, compared to Portal 2 alone, soundsto beas exciting as a convalescent home.
Nintendo did not wish to comment on the rumor, as expected. Are you ready for a new Nintendo console? What, aside from HD support, would you like it to feature?
