New Game of Thrones season 7 teasers show off the Mad Queen and Oathkeeper - but what do they tell us?
If you’re even remotely interested in the latest goings-on ahead of Game of Thrones season 7 then you’ve probably been hunting around for any tiny scrap or morsel of Westeros-related content. Well, you’re in luck because HBO have decided to fulfil the ongoing Thrones drought by, uhh, being big ol’ teases and offering just the tiniest glimpse of Queen Cersei and Brienne’s Oathkeeper.
The short ‘HBO In Production’ clips, which you can see below, show Lena Headey in a makeup chair getting ready to, presumably, rule King’s Landing with an iron fist. There’s also a beautiful close-up shot of Brienne’s Oathkeeper sword – will it see any action this year?
Wow... just caught another #GameofThrones S7 #InProduction teaser. Promise I'm not making this shit up. @WatchersOTWall pic.twitter.com/cw4S4KdjnBMarch 6, 2017
Ohhh... a little #GameofThrones S7 #InProduction love tonight. @WatchersOTWall #Oathkeeper pic.twitter.com/9lwTLvUKi6March 4, 2017
And… that’s it. See, I told you HBO were being teases.
Can we take anything away from the clips? We know Cersei will inevitably play a huge role in the latest season, but it’s interesting that we’re getting a shot not of Brienne, but of her weapon. Could the two be linked in some way, i.e. Oathkeeper goes to town on the Mad Queen?
Let’s not forget Oathkeeper is potentially pretty important in the show’s endgame too. Judging by the oncoming threat of dragons and White Walkers, what role will the Valyrian steel of Brienne’s weapon have to play in the final set of episodes?
Game of Thrones season 7 will air on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK some time in Summer 2017.
