Nearly 13 years later, Final Fantasy 14 is finally coming to Xbox

Close to 13 years after it was released on PC and PlayStation, Final Fantasy 14 is releasing on Xbox.

That comes from director and producer Naoki Yoshida, who revealed the news at Final Fantasy Fan Fest, with none other than Xbox boss Phil Spencer. Final Fantasy 14 is coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S sometime in spring 2024, with an open beta due to kick off during the patch 6.5 run this year.

When one of the best MMORPGs lands on Xbox next year it will do so with 4K support, though you can only download Final Fantasy 14 digitally.

The announcement that FF14 is joining the upcoming Xbox Series X games list closed off a keynote about the future of the MMO, with plenty in the crowd getting an idea of what was coming when Spencer took to the stage.

Yoshida and Spencer then said that they'd been hearing requests to see the MMO on Xbox for the longest time. Looking to the future, Spencer says that the Xbox team see this as the start of working together with Square Enix more closely in the future, which should please those of you out there who are hoping to see Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox.

In other good news for potential Xbox players, Square Enix is extending Final Fantasy 14's free trial to include the Stormblood expansion when patch 6.5 releases later this year. You'll still have an unlimited amount of playtime, though the level cap will be increasing to 70.

If you enjoy what that offers, you can make the jump to a subscription so you can crash through Shadowbringers and Endwalker before Dawntrail releases next summer. Announced at Fan Fest by director and producer Naoki Yoshida, we're heading off to the island of Tural to sort out a succession crisis. It's not all that serious, though, as Yoshi-P wants the expansion to feel like the best summer vacation ever.

Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail adds two new DPS jobs, and Yoshi-P might be baiting us over what they are.
