NBC Orders Pilot For Supernatural Western The Sixth Gun
Based on the Oni Press comic book series
US TV network NBC has given a pilot order to sci-fi western The Sixth Gun , based on an Oni Press comic book series created by writer Cullen Bunn and artist Brian Hurtt.
The story is set during the American Civil War. Wicked cutthroats came into possession of six pistols of otherworldly power. In time, the Sixth Gun, the most dangerous of the weapons, vanished. When the gun surfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, dark forces reawaken. Vile men thought long dead set their sights on retrieving the gun and killing the girl. Only Drake Sinclair, a gunfighter with a shadowy past, stands in their way.
Carlton Cuse ( Lost ) will be acting as showrunner while adaptation chores have fallen to Ryan Condal, a fairly new writer who has also scripted the upcoming Hercules: The Thracian Wars , starring Dwayne Johnson and directed by Brett Ratner.
NBC currently has nine pilots on order, so the show faces an uphill struggle to get to the screen.
The first issue of The Sixth Gun was published in July 2010 and the series is still being published every month.
