National Treasure 2 gets mapped out

When totalfilm.com last caught up with Jerry Bruckheimer, you might remember we asked the pristine-bearded Hollywood honcho which of his movies he’d like to make a sequel to – “We’re doing it, National Treasure and we’re getting everybody back.”

Full marks to the Bruck. On 1 January 2007 the National Treasure team will convene at an as yet undecided location to begin work on a sequel to the surprise hit of 2004.

“We are just about to start preproduction,” co-producer and helmer Jon Turteltaub tells the LA Daily News . “We'll have Nic Cage, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight and Harvey Keitel... Everyone's back except anyone who's in jail or died.”

The first movie followed the Boys Own exploits of Benjamin Franklin Gates (Cage), an adventurer who hails from a family of treasure hunters who’ve all had the same goal – to locate a war chest hidden by the Founding Fathers after the war of revolution.

Turteltaub confirmed that the heroes and villains will be hopping all over the globe in the sequel. “They’ll be off to some exciting destinations within America as well as around the world. As we were shooting the first one, it kept changing, so I'm scared to commit to anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mount Rushmore made an appearance.”
