An online charity auction means you could help create one of the characters in The Secret Service, the major new comic series from the creators of Kick-Ass and Watchmen
Two of comics’ legendary figures, Mark ( Kick-Ass ) Millar and Dave ( Watchmen ) Gibbons are teaming up on a new series called The Secret Service , and you could be in with the chance of naming the supervillain.
The Secret Service is released in February and was co-created with director Matthew Vaughn ( Kick-Ass , X-Men: First Class ). As with Kick-Ass, Nemesis and Superior , Millar is creating a unique opportunity for fans to bid for the right to name a major character in The Secret Service and all proceeds from the auction will go to a good cause in Scotland.
Proceeds from the Kick-Ass auction, where lead character Dave Lizewski was named, paid for a play area in Rutherglen High for pupils with special needs. The proceeds from the more recent Nemesis and Superior auctions paid for half of a specially equipped mini-bus for the children. This latest auction is an opportunity to name the super-villain in The Secret Service . The proceeds from the auction will go to the St Bartholomew’s Primary School Pantomime Fund, which Mark Millar has recently established with Head-Teacher Christine Boyle.
The Secret Service is a six issue series from Millarworld ( Wanted , Kick-Ass , Nemesis and Superior ) and will be hitting shelves in February 2012.
“Dave Gibbons has only ever really worked with Alan Moore and Frank Miller in the past 25 years,” says Millar, “so it’s slightly daunting and thrilling to be working with him, given that I used to write him fan letters and still have a sketch he did for me as a teenager up on my office wall. This concept is something Matthew [Vaughn] and I have batted around in the pub for about 18 months and Matthew’s company, Marv Films, now hold the movie rights. We’re keeping the content mum until January, when a big media onslaught begins for this and other projects from the Millarworld line.”
