Myst Movie Takes A Great Leap Forward

The film of one of the biggest selling computer games ever suddenly takes a significant leap forward
Because suddenly, the project has gone all official and big time, with news that producers Hunt Lowry ( Donnie Darko ) and Mark Johnson ( The Chronicles Of Narnia ) have partnered with the Mysteria Film Group (the team that bought the rights from the game’s developer, Cyan and have been detailing their attempt to get the film made on the production diary) to finally get the Myst movie made. Well, when they can find a studio to give them the money, anyway.
The filmmakers will draw the plot from the mythology within the games, as well as a trilogy of companion novels published around them. “Our aim with this project is to stretch the genres it operated within, much like the source material did,” says Mysteria’s Adrian Vanderbosch. “It is such an innovative property and by utilizing the novels as our primary resource, we have the opportunity to offer audiences the essence of Myst without being limited only to the famous island of the first game. Our focus has always been on creating an entirely new visual experience driven by engaging characters and an epic narrative.”
Myst debuted in 1993 and expanded with four top-selling sequels.
