The Multiversus open beta is now available for all to play, initially closed to most players but now available to download free on most consoles - assuming that you don't want to pay for the additional, inessential Founder's Pack and micropayments within the game.

The actual MultiVersus open beta start time was July 26, 9am PDT / 12noon EDT / 5pm BST on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, which served as a soft launch for MultiVersus. If you want more details on the Multiversus open beta and its current condition, then here's what you need to know.

The Multiversus open beta is no longer locked and any player can play it - assuming they have a compatible console or platform. Simply find it on the digital store for your PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One or PC on Steam respectively, and you can download it accordingly.

Initially the game was only provided certain players via the MultiVersus closed alpha, then to those who knew how to redeem MultiVersus codes, but both of these are now well in the past and no longer relevant to obtaining the game.

Still, there are potential expenses involved for those who want a fuller experience, as players can pay for the Founder's Pack and other micropayment bundles - but with prices ranging from $39.99/£32.99 to $99.99/£79.99 that's a big investment in a game that is technically free to play.

What's new in the MultiVersus open beta

The MultiVersus open beta features eight different maps to battle it out on, including the Batcave (DC), Tree Fort (Adventure Time), and Scooby's Haunted Mansion (Scooby-Doo). The same roster of best MultiVersus characters are returning from the closed alpha, with the notable addition of The Iron Giant as a new fighter, and LeBron James as he appears in Space Jam 2. As you can see from the screen above, they're an absolute unit, though there will be balancing in place to stop them crushing all opposition.

The Preseason Battle Pass is running from now until the launch of the first season, with a free pass for all players and a premium offering available via in-game purchase. We do know that Multiversus Season 1 will have its own battle pass to replace the existing one, but Season 1 was recently delayed, with no stated release date for the time being.
