Morgan Freeman doesn't think Ben Affleck can beat Christian Bale's Batman

Ben Affleck will become the fifth actor to have played the Caped Crusader on film when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in cinemas later this month, and he's got a tough act to follow. Christian Bale's performance in Christopher Nolan's popular Dark Knight trilogy still lingers in many minds, and for Morgan Freeman it can't be topped.

"You know, I'm happy for Ben [Affleck], but I don't know how that's gonna work", the actor told Entertainment Tonight. "Because The Dark Knight was almost it. Pretty much 'it'. Did you see Batman Begins? I don't think you can beat that." Check out the video below...

For his part, Bale seems to be looking forward to the new incarnation of Batman; "Everyone brings their own element to that -- Ben [Affleck] will do that as well. I think the trailers are looking great and I'm looking forward to that. But right on for Morgan [Freeman] for saying no one will ever be that, I very much like him." In a separate interview with Yahoo! Movies, Bale stated "I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would throughout the trilogy. Chris [Nolan] did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it."

While there were many aspects of Bruce Wayne and Batman that Nolan and Bale got absolutely spot on, there's plenty that they didn't. For one thing, Batman never quite fought like Batman in the Dark Knight trilogy, and the trailers for Batman v Superman have already convinced us that won't be the case with Zack Snyder's film. Of course, we'll have to wait until we see the film to properly compare and contrast the two performances and figure out who was the better Bat.

Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Laurence Fishburne, and Amy Adams, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will arrive in UK and US cinemas on March 25, 2016.
