Another summer, another animated movie, another game tie-in. There’s nothing surprising about Monsters vs Aliens apart from the fact that it’s not completely awful. The gameplay is divided between three monsters, each with their own distinctive abilities and levels. For instance, Ginormica, the giant woman voiced by Reese Witherspoon in the movie, skates along highways using cars as roller skates, while blue blob B.O.B. solves puzzles by swallowing guards and crates.

Best of all is the Missing Link, whose later stages borrow from God of War, combining platforming, combat and enjoyable quick-time events. It won’t win prizes for originality and many of the levels are a bit samey but as tie-ins go, this is far from monstrous.
