Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Monster Guide
Lagombi
Element: Ice
Ailment: Iceblight
Weakness: Thunder, Fire
Injured Sign: Limping
Breakable Spots: Ears (both at the same time)
Tips: Lagombi is a fast ice bunny. He likes to crouch and wiggle his ears before launching into a tummy slide. Be mobile when he’s sliding around, because unlike most monsters that commit to a direction when charging, Lagombi can change his trajectory mid-slide. Lagombi will also occasionally reach behind him and pick up a snow boulder. He’s going to throw it at you, so look out!
Najarala
Element: None
Ailment: Paralysis
Weakness: Ice, Water
Injured Sign: Limping
Breakable Spots: Face, Tail, Back, Back Legs
Tips: Najarala is snake-like and will try to coil you and strike with her paralysing fangs. If you are using the Insect Glaive, you will have be able to easily vault out of her coil. Otherwise, you must look for the opening between her body and the end of her tail, and execute a well-timed roll, before she’s able to put the squeeze on you. Najarala will also shoot small plates that stick into the ground. These plates damage on impact, and explode after a short amount of time after landing.
Khezu
Element: Thunder
Ailment: Paralysis
Weakness: Fire
Injured Sign: Standing still and whining, Limping
Breakable Spots: Face, Wings, Body
Tips: Khezu is fairly slow on the ground for a smaller monster. He makes up for it by producing a lightning shield. He has a tendency to climb up to the top of a cave and hang out of reach, so bring Bounce Bombs and bomb in his shadow to knock him down. Khezu will deceptively walk towards you, then break into a short stumbling charge. Sometimes he will extend his head to poke far in front of him, but it is easy to avoid and just provides you a larger surface area to land attacks on his head. When Khezu grounds his tail, avoid his triple lightning breath by standing in between the shots as they fork, or sidestepping the attack entirely. Khezu may ground his tail and charge lightning for a short thunder burst in close proximity of his body.
Rathian
Element: Fire
Ailment: Poison, Fireblight, Severe Fireblight
Weakness: Dragon, Thunder
Injured Sign: Limping
Breakable Spots: Head, Wings, Tail
Tips: Rathian is prone to charging and spinning her tail and head when she’s grounded. When she flies into the air, take care not to stand under her claws or directly in front of her. She can land on you, and the only way to get her off is by using a Dung Bomb. In flight, she will also spin her poison tipped tail forwards. It is extremely annoying to have to use an antidote during a Rathian fight, due to her fast speed. She is the mate of Rathalos, and the two can be found together in many quests. If you steal her Wyvern Egg, it is a good way to get her attention and bring her to you.
Gore Magala
Element: None
Ailment: Frenzy Virus
Weakness: Fire, Thunder, Dragon
Injured Sign: Limping
Breakable Spots: Face, Wings, Tail, Horns
Tips: No matter how good you are at dodging its attacks, if you are using a melee weapon, Gore Magala will inevitably infect you will the Frenzy Virus. Frenzy Virus will negate natural healing completely, and make you more susceptible to elemental attacks. The best way to get rid of frenzy virus is to attack relentlessly, and the best way to do that is to mount him and knock him over. Even when Gore Magala is low on stamina (evident by his purple glow turning grey), he will continue his attack relentlessly. There are very few “openings” when fighting Gore Magala, directly after a charge or breath attack, and that’s about it.
