Monkey Island creator reveals DeathSpank
Ron Gilbert scores publisher for his 'Monkey Island meets Diablo' adventure
Jan 10, 2008
You may recall that back in 2006 Ron 'Monkey Island' Gilbert revealed he was plugging away on a new adventure title. Well, it turns out his game is called DeathSpank, and Hothead Games has picked it up for publication.
DeathSpank is an episodic adventure described as Monkey Island meets Diablo which "follows the thong-tastic adventures of a misguided hero named DeathSpank". The character debuted in a series of web-based animated comics co-penned by Gilbert.
Speaking in 2006 about the game, Gilbert said, "[It's] very heavily story-based, a lot of sensibilities of adventure games mixed with some of the action fun RPG elements.
"So what you've got is the kind of large world exploration that you have in an RPG that you don't really have with an adventure game.
"You've got the action, some light combat, you know, Diablo-style combat going on with it, but it is also infused with really good adventure-game-style puzzles and adventure-style sensibilities to the storytelling."
DeathSpank Episiode 1: Orphans of Justice is "coming soonish," according to the game's official website.
