Watchmen Collapses Under Mountain Avalanche
Disney’s family adventure film Race To Witch Mountain has trounced Watchmen in the North American weekend box office. The Disney film had takings of $25 million, while Watchmen could manage just $18.1 million. That was a massive collapse of 67% week on week for the superhero flick although Variety claims, "many had expected the drop to be even higher." C'mon guys, it wasn't that bad. But it's all not bad news for the Zack Synder film: "Overseas, Watchmen fell 50% to an estimated $13.5 million. [The film’s] worldwide total of $135.5 million in 10 days eases concerns that it will be a pricey financial loser for Warners [which] cost north of $200 million to produce and market." Apologies of the parentheses, but we have to translate from Variety-speak.
From Watchmen To Werewolves
Meanwhile, Watchmen scripter David Hayter is a busy man, moving onto werewolves for his directorial debut, and setting up a new company, Dark Hero Studios, to "generate film, TV, Internet and videogame projects in the action, sci-fi and horror genres" according to Variety . The werewolf film is Slaughter Road, which will star Sarah Connor Chronicle’s Thomas Dekker. Dark Hero’s first project will be an adaptation of Demonology.
From Witch To Monster Attack
And continuing our series of interconnected stories this morning, Witch Mountain director Andy Fickman is sticking with Disney for his next directing gig. Monster Attack Network, based on a 2007 graphic novel, about a Pacific island that would be a paradise except for frequent attacks by giant monsters that rise from the sea, reports Variety .
Zombie Walks Again
And the links don’t stop there: Fickman will also be one of the producers on a remake of the 1943 Val Lewton classic I Walked With a Zombie. Adam (Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday) Marcus is set direct, says Variety .

Raimi on Spider-Man 4
Despite earlier rumours that Sony would be making Spideys 4 and 5 back to back, Sam Raimi tells MTV.com that he is only working a fourth instalment: "The writers, producers and I are working out what the story will be, but we haven’t been talking in terms of Part 4 and 5. I’ve read that [about Spider-Man 5] also, but right now we’re just working on the story for Spider-Man 4 just that one film."
He also adds that any new villains will be drawn from already existing Spidey characters: "We’re definitely talking about working from all the material in the comic books and nothing [invented] outside of that. All the characters or villains or villains, whatever we decide to do will be from Stan Lee’s creations or those that came after him." He also confirms that he would like to see Kirsten Dunst back as Mary Jane, is she wants to commit again.
