The Modern Warfare 2 patch notes for Week One have gone live, confirming all of the major changes made in the 1.08 update, including fixes so players can now edit their Profile Showcase and unlock camos correctly during progression, while certain map exploits and bugs have been squashed to balance gameplay. Infinite Ward have made various other tweaks, including a subsequent update to reset players’ Weekly Star counts in Special Ops so Weekly Stars can be earned. The groundwork has been laid for the upcoming Season 01 launch, and with the belated release of the official patch notes we now know all of the improvements made to Modern Warfare 2 with this update.

What are the different Modern Warfare 2 Mastery Camos and how to unlock them all.

One interesting thing to note with this update is the wide variety of file sizes being reported for the patch, as while PlayStation and PC players are saying theirs is generally in the 500MB-1GB range, those on Xbox are finding they have to download 30-50GB to get up and running again – so if you're on Xbox Series X or Xbox One, you should check for the new update ASAP if you don't want to be locked out of the game for an extended time, as even the single player campaign requires an online connection. For a round up of the changes this should provide, read on for the Modern Warfare 2 patch notes.

The 1.08 update went live on November 3, but initially Infinity Ward didn't provide any official Modern Warfare 2 patch notes to go with this. The only details issued were via Twitter saying that they have "recently released an update that fixed an issue that prevented players from editing their Profile Showcase, additionally we've also fixed various map exploits and bugs across the game" and players should "stay tuned as we provide further game updates" while referring to their official Trello board. Any Modern Warfare 2 patch notes are due to appear there, though the relevant section is marked as "Coming Soon" so this hasn't been implemented yet.

However, late on November 4 we did get an official set of Modern Warfare 2 patch notes from Infinity Ward, laying out the Week One changes in more detail. The main issues addressed are as follows:

  • Various fixes for crashes across all platforms to provide additional stability
  • Fixes to address framerate drop, freezing, stuttering, and lag issues
  • Resolved issue with certain camos not unlocking correctly with progression
  • General performance improvements

PC players have also received a recent NVIDIA hotfix to resolve some critical issues, so if you're on that platform then ensure you're using the 526.61 drivers, and the PC benchmark map has been refreshed so you should see more accurate FPS information.

In terms of weapons, nothing has been changed for now, however there's lots of weapon performance and usage data currently being collected and a detailed weapons balancing update will be released to coincide with the Season 01 Modern Warfare 2 Battle Pass. This update has reenabled the Modern Warfare 2 weapon tuning feature, meaning you can once again fine-tune any attachments on the guns you've mastered without experiencing crashes as a result.

In Multiplayer, the enemy and live ping remains disabled until the start of Season 01 due to a bug that sometimes causes the ping to remain after death, though keyboard and mouse players can still danger ping. The Breenbergh Hotel map has been added to Third Person Moshpit, while various exploits and geometry bugs have been patched in existing Modern Warfare 2 maps to remove unfair advantages players have been taking advantage of.

Finally, the UI is continuing to be refined and there are details of changes coming soon for Season 01, which is good news as Modern Warfare 2 menus are confusing the hell out of players still. Future fixes are in the works to address the Riot Shield making players invulnerable to the copper gunner and VTOL, availability of the DDOS Field upgrade, and helicopter height which can allow it to leave the map in some cases, but we'll need to wait for the next set for Modern Warfare 2 patch notes to find out how they are being resolved.
