Mining the past again
New screens show Activision Hits Remixed largely unchanged from original 2600 format
Publisher Activision is digging into its library once again this Halloween with Activision Hits Remixed, a PSP compilation of more than 40 classic Atari 2600 games. We've just received a handful of new screens for the collection; showing classics such as Pitfall, River Raid and Atlantis, they're… well, they're Atari 2600 screens, albeit "remixed" for the PSP's wide screen.
Luckily, Remixed is more than just a collection of relatively ancient (if still enjoyable) games - while the titles themselves should look and play exactly as they did way back in the '80s, players will now be able to challenge each other via a wireless ad-hoc connection, and a Game Sharing feature will enable two to play with one UMD.
Additionally, the collection features an extensive soundtrack of '80s pop songs, meaning you can now play Pitfall while rocking out to Flock of Seagulls' "I Ran," just like you did in your imaginary memories. And for those who still hunger for nostalgia, achieving pre-set goals in each game will unlock extras including original game manuals, developer photos and sure-to-be-hilariously-dated Atari 2600 TV commercials. Best of all, the collection will retail for $19.99, making it one of the most inexpensive PSP games to date.
