Microsoft reveal cross-platform plans for Windows 10, Xbox One

Speaking at the Game Developers Conference, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed Microsoft's plans to integrate Windows 10 with its various gaming platforms.

Windows 10 will act as a unified OS, allowing developers to create one version of a game that will work across all Microsoft platforms - PC, Xbox One and tablet. Cross-platform play is supported - as demonstrated on stage, when the #IDARB crew rocked up on stage to show their game being played competitively between an Xbox player and a foe on a Surface tablet.

A forthcoming wireless adapter allows wireless Xbox One peripherals to work on PC, and games will support cross-buy, from a dedicated Windows Store app.

This integration is also being extended to Microsoft's growing ID@Xbox indie development program - allowing games made using this service to run on PC or tablet.
