Michelle Pfeiffer in Hairspray?
She’s in talks to play bitter beauty queen Velma Von Tussel
Looks like the Hairspray movie can’t go a few weeks without trying to add someone who starred in a Grease film. Michelle Pfeiffer got her big break in Grease 2 and now she’s talking to the Hairspray movie musical producers about coming back to the musical world.
If the contract is hammered out, she’ll play Velma Von Tussel, a former beauty queen (Miss Baltimore Crabs, har har) finding herself stuck in one of life’s ruts. She is producer of a Baltimore TV dance show that launches careers for local teenagers.
Already signed are original Grease star John Travolta (who, and we can’t repeat this enough, is in drag as Edna Turnblad), Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle, Brittany Snow as Velma’s daughter Amber Von Tussel and recently cast newcomer Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad.
With Adam Shankman (Bringing Down The House, The Pacifier) calling the shots (and using his choreography background to sort the hot shoe shuffling), the film should hit screens Christmas 2007.
