Michael Keaton explains Spider-Man: Homecoming's Vulture relevance, says you're going to "like him"

If the Marvel Cinematic Universe has one big flaw it’s that, Loki aside, its villains are pretty bland and one-dimensional. But have no fear, Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Vulture looks to buck the trend with Michael Keaton saying people are actually going to “like him.”

Michael Keaton has already donned the latex boots of superheroes (Batman) and even bird-brained costumed crusaders (Birdman… kinda) but Vulture will be a whole ‘nother ball game grounded in reality, as he revealed to EW.

“The character actually has more relevance [to modern-day life],” Keaton stated, before adding, “There’s a B-story to this guy that’s kind of really interesting and really relevant.”

Not only will viewers identify with Vulture in how he fits into our word but, shock, horror, they might actually like him according to Keaton: “A lot of people are going to like him, probably more than they want to, would be my guess.”

Spider-Man has previous with trying to create likeable, tragic villains and it’s never quite worked out. Here’s hoping Michael Keaton can prove to be a great foil for Spidey and an interesting, likeable villain.

Directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, and Donald Glover, Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
