Here's the first shot of Michael Fassbender in the Assassin's Creed movie

It's taken its time but the Assassin's Creed movie is set to start shooting next week and here's producer and star Michael Fassbender donning his blades and hood for the very first promotional shot of new Spanish Assassin, Aguilar. It had been rumoured that Ubi was going to go for a new Assassin and time period for the series first outing on the silver screen so this is excellent news. No free running over the old and potentially very stale ground of Ezio and co.

Aguilar is a 15th century Assassin who is a genetic ancestor of a modern day character called Callum Lynch. Fassbender is playing Lynch so taking on both roles on either end of the Animus. Armed with the double blades of Ezio, Aguilar is looking rather smouldery and is that a missing finger on his left hand to identify him as a member of the Brotherhood?

Lynch delves into the Animus to gain the knowledge and power necessary to take on those pesky Templars in the present day so it looks like the movie is planning on being a little more balanced than recent additions to the franchise. Interestingly, a Spanish Assassin who was available in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag as the 'Duellist' in multiplayer was named Renardo Aguilar but it's unclear whether these time periods match. The movie is set for release on December 21st next year and Fassbender will star alongside the excellent Marion Cotillard. We'll probably see more very soon.
