20th Century Fox is planning a sequel to Oliver Stone's 1987 classic Wall Street, and the studio is talking to Michael Douglas about returning as financial powerhouse Gordon Gekko.
As the real-life Wall Street continues to dominate the news in America, producer Edward R Pressman (who worked on Stone's original) is busy pulling together plans for another Gekko story, reports Variety .
This time, the plot will follow an aged Gekko as he's released from prison into a financial world that has been plunged into chaos. Allan Loeb is writing the script.
Douglas Not Signed yet
While Douglas has yet to be formally attached to the film, Fox wants the actor to reprise one of his most famous roles. But it's unlikely that Oliver Stone will be directing this time.
Writer Loeb, who scripted gambling drama 21, has the ideal background for this assignment - he used to work as a stockbroker in Chicago.
It's the perfect time to revisit Gekko and his ilk, given how badly the global financial system is faring. Just one question: will there be enough money in the coffers to actually make the movie?
