MGS4 destined for 360?
[Multi] Konami worried about PS3 potential audience
Monday 18 December 2006
An Xbox 360 version of the fanatically anticipated MGS sequel, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, is reported to be in development and due for release shortly after the game's launch on PS3.
The reason behind Konami's decision, according togaming blog Nooozwhich credits an anonymous source at Konami HQ with revealing the shock info, is that the publisher doesn't believe Sony can shift enough PS3s to make MGS4 profitable on a single platform. By porting the sequel to Xbox 360, Konami would be assured of recouping the game's monolithic development costs.
However, when we contacted Konami we were informed - in no uncertain terms - that "Metal Gear Solid 4 is a PS3 exclusive. It is not planned for release on any other format."
The game isn't pencilled in for release until late next year, anyway, which makes Konami's rumoured reasoning seem overly pessimistic and premature. But, that said, if the whispers persist we'll be first in line to investigate the truth.
