Metal Gear Solid: Rising info, Alan Wake sequel and new BioWare game will be at Spike VGAs Dec 10
Spike’s Video Game Awards are coming soon and with it major news
In case you somehow missed the media blitz that was last year’s Spike Video Game Awards, it’s a bit like a mini-E3 filled with B-list celebs and terrible award show banter. Honestly the winners hardly matter compared to all the trailers that premier there. Last year we got our first glimpses of Skyrim, Mass Effect 3 and Uncharted 3, and the year before they revealed Arkham City. Now we already know that the Dec 10 event will have at least three big announcements, with the reveal of an Alan Wake sequel, BioWare’s next game, and the first time we’ll see Metal Gear Solid: Rising since E3 2010.
After both E3 and Tokyo Game Show came and went this year without any new info on the game, we worried Rising had been scrapped altogether, but Spike says Hideo Kojima himself will be on hand to “reveal the truth” about the Metal Gear sequel. Meanwhile, we’d heard rumors awhile back about an Alan Wake sequel which we now know is a standalone Xbox Live release, so we’re glad to see the promising series isn’t finished yet. And who knows what BioWare’s next game will be, as Spike didn’t indicate if it was a new franchise or not, just that it would involve a new studio under the BioWare umbrella.
The VGAs also revealed the nominees for Game of the Year: Batman: Arkham City, Zelda: Skyward Sword, Portal 2, Skyrim and Uncharted 3. It will air live on the US cable channel Spike 8 PM ET/5 PM PT Saturday December 10 and if you can stomach the parts that aren’t game trailers, it’s not such a bad time.
