Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection confirmed
Eight games in one for PS3
UPDATE: The Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection is real and it packs even more games than we thought, Konami confirmed to IGN today. The PlayStation 3 bundle includes Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions, Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition--which includes the MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake--Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition. It also includes two Ashley Wood digital comics.
IGN lists a release date of June for the Legacy Collection.
"We wanted to give Metal Gear Solid fans the opportunity to experience the series from beginning to end, all on one console," Konami president Tomoyuki Tsuboi said. "With the collection's multiple titles, players can truly see how Metal Gear Solid evolved into the critically acclaimed and beloved franchise it is today."
UPDATE 2: The original Metal Gear Solid will be included via downloadable voucher code, Konami tells us.
The third Metal Gear Solid collection in five years may be headed to retail, if an image tweeted by series creator Hideo Kojima and leaked Korean ratings line up.
The box-art-looking image shows five Snakes, from Metal Gear Solid's Snake to the eye-patched Big Boss of Peace Walker. Today's list from the Korean Game Rating Board (via NeoGAF) also shows a new entry by the name of Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection.
The Essential Collection compiled Metal Gear Solid 1 through 3 in 2008, and MGS HD Collection bundled high-definition versions of MGS 2, 3, and Peace Walker in 2011. Judging by the five snakes, it looks like the Legacy Collection would include all of those titles plus MGS 4.

The original Metal Gear Solid poses a problem--it was packed in as a PlayStation One game in The Essential Collection, right down to requiring a PS1 memory card. GameCube-exclusive remake The Twin Snakes is an option, but that may mean licensing with Nintendo.
We've asked Konami about the Legacy Collection and will update this article with any response.
