How to REALLY spend your time in MGS5: cardboarding
Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes' complete lack of cardboard boxes was concerning, but it turns out they were just back at the shop for some upgrades. At some point in the nine years between Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, box technology progressed to the point that Snake can now use them like toboggans.
If you haven't discovered this key feature of The Phantom Pain yet, run - don't walk - to your system of choice and head out to the field. Get to the top of a nice long slope, equip your favorite C.Box, and take a dive. The rest, as spotted on Reddit, is pure magic.
MGS5 cardboarding follows in the tradition of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, which let you shred up Big Shell in A Hideo Kojima Skateboarding Minigame. It even builds on the original Metal Gear Solid, which let you sneak into cargo trucks and pretend to be a box as a quick and easy way to get around Shadow Moses. Where we're going we don't need trucks. Cardboard boxes have finally fulfilled their true potential.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
