Metal Gear artist honored in Tokyo exhibit
Konami to host "The Art of Yoji Shinkawa" exhibit in January
You may not know Yoji Shinkawa by name, but if you've spent any time in Solid Snake's world, you've more than likelyseen his work. An artist by trade, Yoji has gained quite a rep in gaming circles for his stylized designs and art direction for Konami's Metal Gear Solid and Zone of Enders series. Next year, Konami will be paying its respects toShinkawa and hisworksduring the“The Art of Yoji Shinkawa” exhibit in Tokyo.
Opening January 15th to 31st at the Konami Style Shop in Tokyo Midtown, the exhibit will feature a number of Shinkawa's 3D sculptures and 2D prints inspired largely by the Metal Gear series. Shinkawa is also said to be appearing on the exhibit's opening day, and the first 1,200 visitors will receive a free card-sized calendar. Being that the event is taking place withinits store, Konami will also be selling brand new Metal Gear Solid swag.
Shinkawa's work has already appeared in multiple “The Art of Metal Gear Solid” books, and it's fairly simple to track down his work on the internet. Still, if you're a distinguished gaming aficionado with an eye for fine arts and a habit of using words like 'distinguished' and 'aficionado', this may be one rare gaming event that's worth the airfare.
