News : "McSpaced" gets a pilot
And Simon Pegg’s not thrilled...
And there we were, hoping against hope that the recent writers’ strike might have put the kibosh on US telly network Fox’s plans to tear out our geeky hearts and serve them to us on a platter. Okay, so we’re being overdramatic, but the news that the channel had nabbed the rights to ace series Spaced – career rocket for the likes of Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright, Nick Frost and Jessica Hynes (nee Stevenson) – had us worried that we’d end up with something more Coupling than the Steve Carell version of The Office.
Edgar Wright is on record as being disappointed by the idea and now Simon Pegg has spoken out. On a statement to fan site Peggster.net , he’s explained his feelings on the issue, including the fact that the makers of the proposed new series seem to have no trouble citing what fans they are of the original and dropping Pegg and Wright’s names in the press release, while never so much as calling either of them (or mentioning poor old Jess as a co-creator) to tell them the news.
Bah, we say, bah! Keep Spaced British! But enough of us… What say you on the forums?
