For his follow-up to this year’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, director Matthew Vaughn might be heading to a much earlier comic book era for inspiration. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vaughn is in early talks to helm the new Flash Gordon movie. Now that you’ve got Flash, AAAAAH! firmly stuck in your head, let’s turn to the details.
The remake entered development last year over at Fox, with John Davis (producer of Predator and I, Robot) and George Nolfi (writer of The Bourne Ultimatum and The Adjustment Bureau) set to produce. Currently Star Trek 3 scribes J.D. Payne and Patrick Mackay are at work on the screenplay based on an earlier version by Nolfi.
Recently, former Flash Gordon star Sam Jones told Den of Geek that the movie is being shaped as a sequel, not a remake. The 1980 movie in which Jones appeared was based on the original strip by artist Alex Raymond. It’s now regarded as a cult classic largely thanks to its unforgettable score by Queen.
Vaughn’s credentials prove he’s more than worthy of locking down this gig. His resume includes several high-profile comic book adaptations including Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, which were both met with praise from critics and fans alike. We can’t wait to see his take on Flash.
