Matt Reeves making Frankenstein prequel This Dark Endeavour
Adds it to his busy slate
Let Me In and Cloverfield director Matt Reeves has added another new film to his bustling slate, having signed on to adapt Kenneth Oppel’s upcoming novel This Dark Endeavour .
The book’s subtitled The Apprenticeship Of Victor Frankenstein , which gives you some idea of what the general plot will be.
A prequel to Mary Shelley’s classic tome, Oppel’s novel follows a young Victor Frankenstein, who makes it his mission to create the Elixir of Life and save his twin brother Konrad.
As he journeys to find a mysterious alchemist who could help him, Victor is joined by Konrad and their friend Elizaebth – which leads to a love triangle amid other deadly dramas.
Reeves’ Frankenstein film is just one of an array of other Frankenstein films that are currently in various stages of development.
Guillermo del Toro recently talked up his idea for a big screen resurrection of the mad scientist, while Sam Raimi’s production company recently bought a script entitled The Casebook Of Victor Frankenstein.
Then there's Tim Burton's currently in development Frankenweenie , which began as a short and is now being expanded into a 3D stop-motion feature.
Reeves is currently also attached to direct a new version of John Carpenter’s They Live, as well as an adaptation of vampire tale The Passage.
