Matt Reeves compares Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to The Godfather

In issue 221 of Total Film magazine , Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves has big ambitions for this summer's simian action blockbuster.

Inside the issue - which is available for just £2.99 on your iPad - Reeves admits that he's planning for a smarter, sharper and serious sequel to 2011's surprise hit.

"I wanted it to be Apocalypse Now. .. I wanted it to be Lawrence of Arabia " the director smiled, before stopping to reconsider.

"No, think The Godfather with apes."
