Matt Dillon nabs Gotham honour
The Crash star will receive a tribute at the 15th Annual Gotham Awards
Matt Dillon’s entire body of work, spanning 26 years, is to be feted at the Gotham Awards ceremony in November. New York’s Independent Feature Project (IFP) are the people behind the Gothams. “We've all watched Matt grow up on camera,” said IFP exec Michelle Byrd, “but I don't know how many of us have stopped and taken a look at the tremendously accomplished body of work that he continues to build.”
Previous recipients of the Gotham Award include Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep, Ang Lee, Steve Buscemi, Martin Scorsese, Robert Altman and Mike Leigh. There are also awards for Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Ensemble Cast, Breakthrough Director, Breakthrough Actor and Best Film Not Playing at a Theatre Near You.
High on the IFP’s list of priorities is innovation and talent in support of independent film. Hardly a head-scratcher as to why they are keen to pay homage to Dillon then.
“I’ve never taken jobs for the money,” he recently told Total Film. “I have to be true to myself. No one ever comes to your funeral and says, ‘He was really famous’, right?”
Like we said, Dillon is one cool dude.
