Marvel and Sony working on deal to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Rival studios about to set differences aside?
Marvel doesn’t tend to work very closely with the studios that have managed to get hold of its key characters, but that could be about to change, if a deal can be struck with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU.
According to HitFix , there are rumblings of tentative negotiations between the two parties, as Sony attempts to work out just how to get the best out of an ailing franchise.
The report claims that there are some “very cool” plans afoot regarding the character, with a new direction for the franchise set to “open up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom’s minds.”
Needless to say, any such deal would likely be very tricky to iron out, with the rights to the well-loved character having long proved a knotty issue.
However, on the face of it, it would seem to make a degree of sense for both studios, giving Sony a commercial shot in the arm for an underperforming franchise, and Marvel getting the opportunity to bring Spidey home. We can but hope…
