Mark Ruffalo says Universal holds rights to solo Hulk movie

Mark Ruffalo has been speaking about his future as Bruce Banner, and has revealed that Universal still holds the rights to any further solo Hulk movies…

“I think it’s four now, but that could always go further,” says Ruffalo when asked by Collider how many movies are left on his Marvel deal. “I could show up in another character’s movie; I could do Avengers 3 and 4; I could do a Hulk standalone; I could do a combination of those things. That’s four or five, I think.”

However, that standalone movie may not be on the horizon any time soon given what Ruffalo has revealed about Universal’s part in the picture…

“As far as a Hulk movie, a standalone Hulk movie, Marvel doesn’t really have the rights to that yet,” explains the star. “That’s still Universal’s property, so there’s that issue. That’s a big impediment to moving forward with that. Now I don’t think that’s insurmountable, by the way, but I don’t know where it’s going from here for me.”

And while Marvel and Universal worked together on The Incredible Hulk, that was before Disney owned the former. Just how Disney would feel about Universal distributing a major Marvel release is certainly up for debate…

In the meantime, we can look forward to Hulk getting his smash on in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which opens in the UK on 23 April 2015 and the US on 1 May 2015.
