Old Man Logan author Mark Millar says comic-book continuity is boring
Mark Millar has been talking about what we can expect from the final Wolverine standalone movie, but has warned fans not to expect it to sit perfectly within the construct of the wider X-Men universe. Why? Because according to Millar, comic-book continuity is “boring”.
“Honestly, the continuity stuff is the most boring side of it,” says Millar to IGN. “I kind of like it, keeping it in the X-Men universe a little, too, because comic fans are different from the mainstream world. I know this stuff backwards because I’ve lived my whole life loving this stuff, but most people don’t know all the minutia and everything so I think keeping it simplified and keeping it generally X-Men universe is a smarter thing to do.”
“Basically Wolverine doing the road movie is the important thing and he has a friend (a blind Hawkeye) with him. But that friend could be Cyclops and he could be blind by the fact that his ruby-quartz visor is broken and he has to keep his eyes closed the whole time and everything, but still insists on driving the car they’re crossing America with. There’s lots of stuff. Instead of the Hulk, you could have the Blob or something.”
Basically, in Millar’s view, the third movie should be a Wolverine road movie that loosely fits into the rest of the X-Men universe. However, it’s important to note that while Millar may be an expert on the source material (he wrote the comic-book arc upon which the plot is thought to be based), we’ve no idea whether Fox shares his vision. We’ll have to wait and see, when the film hits the UK on March 2 2017 and the US the following day.
