Marisa Tomei in talks for Aunt May in Spider-Man reboot

Spider-Man could have found its second cast member, as Variety reports that Oscar-winner Marisa Tomei is in the final negotiations to play Aunt May in Sony-Marvel's webhead reboot. According to the site's sources, she was offered the part late last week and is in the process of hammering out contract details.

At 50, Tomei will be the youngest actress to ever play Peter Parker's aunt. Previously the role was tackled by Rosemary Harris (the Sam Raimi trilogy) and Sally Field (seen below in The Amazing Spider-Man reboots). Should the studios lock her in for the part, she will appear alongside the recently-announced Tom Holland who nabbed the titular role. Holland makes his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War, in an introductory cameo capacity, while Tomei probably won't appear until the first standalone Spidey movie.

Even though she's not confirmed, Tomei's connection to the part has stirred up plenty of online chatter - most of which concerns her youthful appearance in comparison to the previous incumbents. When you can take into account the studios' insistence on Peter Parker being a teenager this time around, it makes sense. And besides, when she can deliver scenes like this, we'll gladly see her take on the role of his guardian.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man swings into theaters on July 28, 2017.
