Mario has a Spanish street named after him, breakability of bricks currently unconfirmed

Today's awesome but pointless news story goes as follows: The Spanishsuburb of Zargoza has named a street in a new residential development Avenida de Super Mario Bros. in tribute to the greatest series of platform games in all of time. Mario seems very happy about it. And the town council seems to have plans for more video game suburbs in the future.

The street is part of a new neighbourhood being built to provide homes for 20-35-year-old first-time buyers. And the best bit? The naming was made not by some stealth-geek who has infiltraded the council, but by the people themselves. Video games won a online poll to select the theme of the still-in-construction neighbourhood's street names, and now there are plans for roads named after Sonic, Space Invaders and Zelda. Better keep the Mario and Sonic ones fairly far apart though, in case any warring fanboys decide to take the fight to their postcodes. The last thing we need is '90s playground fights turning into all-out turf wars.

Also, we came up with an amazing 'the names in Spain stay mainly with the games' pun in the office meeting this morning. Just thought you might like to know.

Thanks,CNN!
