Margot Robbie thinks Harley Quinn is Suicide Squad's best character (surprise)
Compared to the outlandish antics of Jared Leto, Margot Robbie's prep for Suicide Squad appears downright tame. She hasn't mailed anyone dead rats or used condoms. But to be honest, it doesn't really matter how 'method' she goes: fans are just excited to see a live-action version of Harley Quinn hitting the big screen. That enthusiasm is catching on with Robbie herself. She believes that Quinn is the top supervillain in the entire movie.
“For the first time, I thought that I had the best character in the movie," she tells OysterMag. "I wouldn’t trade my character in Suicide Squad for anyone else’s. The comics are rad. I hadn’t read any growing up, but now I’m obsessed. I read them in my own time."
"I think it's going to be so cool," she adds, "and I just love that there's a chick character who's that badass, and who's actually, like funnier and crazier and stronger than some of the males. I think that rarely happens." That's an encouraging statement, especially in light of criticisms levelled at the character. Specifically? How short her shorts are. They're short.
Of course, this is just based on the glimpses shown in the trailers, and Robbie has said previously that those miniscule hot pants won't appear in any sequels. And, while it's no secret that Quinn and the Joker have an amorous relationship, going forward the actress would prefer her maniacal villain to step away from just being eye candy. “I want to keep looking for roles where the main interest will be in the character and her importance in driving a story forward, rather than her relationship with a male character.”
Directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on August 5, 2016.
