Mafia 3's DLC involves solving ritualistic murders and a Vietnam mystery
The more we see of Mafia 3, the better this trip to New Bordeaux gets and now 2K has revealed what's on the way post release. The new story expansions sound ridiculously appealing but I'll get the free stuff out of the way first.
As listed by an update on the official site, the absolutely no cost options will include new character outfits for hero Lincoln and, 30 days after the game launches, everyone will get their hands on the Judge, Jury and Executioner golden weapons pack. This includes a .30 rifle, a shiny golden shotgun and a dangerous looking silent pistol. There's also vehicle customisation on the way and free races to earn cash, customisation options and other rewards.
But then there's the really interesting bits. Mafia 3's story DLC will be "wholly separate experiences that reveal more about Lincoln Clay's time in New Bordeaux" and "will reveal the Italian Mafia isn't the only threat Lincoln faces." Hmm, intriguing.
The first of the three paid expansions will be 'Faster, Baby,' a story add-on that sees Lincoln teaming up with a former flame and taking on a corrupt Sheriff terrorising Civil Rights activists. 2K is promising "fast cars, dramatic chases and stunt driving" and the below screen looks suitably like Tarantino's Death Proof so I'm in.
Next up will be 'Sign of the Times' which I'm most excited about. "A string of ritualistic killings has New Bordeaux on the edge of terror," says the blog post. This means Lincoln will be hunting down a cult that will take him from the old bayou to the drug addled city. Anything that describes a character reaching the "dark heart" of anything has me hooked and it looks like the woman below is holding dog tags...
Finally 'Stones Unturned' will see Lincoln take on a "merciless rival" in New Bordeaux. Teaming up with a CIA agent, he has to settle a blood feud that kicked off all the way back in Vietnam.
All the story expansions will be included in the season pass which is included in both the Deluxe and Collector's Editions of the games. They'll also be available to buy individually which will set you back $39.97. The season pass is a cheaper option at $29.99. Mafia 3 is out on October 7.
