Machine Gun Preacher trailer lands

A trailer has arrived online for Gerard Butler's upcoming redemption drama Machine Gun Preacher , with Butler getting the chance to show his cuddly side, as well as punching, shooting and shouting at people.

The film charts the real-life story of Sam Childers (Butler), a violent drug dealer who cleans up his act by becoming an aid worker in Sudan.

Naturally, he's not just any old aid worker, and it isn't long before Childers is shouldering a rocket-launcher to protect the local kids from conscription into a warlord's rebel army.

Take a look at the explosion-heavy trailer below...

It all looks a little uneven to us, with Gezza looking right at home with an RPG but distinctly uncomfortable when cuddling a child. That said, the action looks suitably pumped-up, and the plot itself shines a light on a corner of the world that doesn't get too much attention from mainstream Hollywood.

The film is directed by Quantum Of Solace helmer Mark Forster, with Michael Shannon and Michelle Monaghan joining Butler in the starring roles.

Machine Gun Preacher will get its international premiere at next month's Toronto International Film Festival before arriving in cinemas Stateside on September 23. The film is out in the UK on November 18.
