M. Night Shyamalan revives Tales From The Crypt

One of the '90s most popular cult shows is headed back to the small screen. TNT is developing a new two-hour horror block for the fall 2016 season led by a revival of the horror series Tales From The Crypt. M. Night Shyamalan will oversee the entire two-hour session that includes an additional three "short- and long-form storytelling" series anchored by the one-hour reboot of Crypt.

The Crypt reboot is said to be similar in format to Black Mirror, in that each episode will be a standalone story as opposed to other anthology series such as American Horror Story. While details on any plot particulars are being kept quiet for now, it's expected that Shyalaman will direct the first episode.

"I couldn’t be more excited to be teaming up with Kevin Reilly, Sarah Aubrey and the entire TNT team in this unique endeavor," the director said in a statement. "To be part of such a beloved brand like Tales From the Crypt, something I grew up watching, and to also have the chance to push the boundaries of genre television as a whole, is an inspiring opportunity that I can’t wait to dive into."

Shyamalan's most recent efforts, found footage horror The Visit and sci-fi series Wayward Pines, saw a return to form for the divisive filmmaker which makes his appointment on TNT's new venture an intriguing prospect. As yet, there's no word on a start date or whether or not the iconic Cryptkeeper will resume his hosting duties.
