As Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull prepares to hit DVD with $770 million worldwide under its belt, it should come as no surprise that George Lucas and the rest of the Indiana Jones team are thinking of ideas for a follow-up. And Harrison Ford has just gone on the record to confirm our suspicions.
In a chat with the LA Times , Ford admitted that Lucas’ brain is now ticking over with ideas. “It's crazy but great. George is in think mode right now.”
Yes, it probably makes sense not to take quite as long this time. After all, none of the participants, including Steven Spielberg, Ford and Lucas are getting any younger.
Plus it sounds like they all want to try to repeat the experience of making the fourth outing: “It's automatic, really, we did well with the last one and with that having done well and been a positive experience, it’s not surprising that some people want to do it again.” Some people? That doesn’t sound to enthusiastic to us, Harrison.
“It Was A Calculated Risk”
So besides the possibility of cashing in again (not that any of the main trio really need the dosh) and getting the old gang back together, what’s behind this latest move to make the pic? “Really, it comes from the ethos, from the ether. It's natural. It's a way of nature, of course, success breed opportunities. Also we don't stay as closely in contact as have in the last year, that's part of it.” Um… Right.
Despite audiences’ clear desire for another adventure (even if the passion burned a little less brightly once Crystal Skull arrived) Ford and co never saw the fourth film as a sure thing. “It was a calculated business risk but I believe it paid off. I was somewhat surprised and gratified to see it did the business that it did. It was successful in almost every market.”
There’s no word on whether Shia LaBeouf will be invited back, though we’re sure Spielberg will want him involved provided he stays in one piece. Oi, Shia… Stay away from that car and those robots, ok? We don’t want the new film called Indiana Jones And The Disembodied Head.
