It’s in the design stages now, but we won’t see it until 2013 at the very earliest
The Fifth Element director Luc Besson is returning to sci-fi big time it seems. In an interview with Fantasy.fr (helpfully reported on and translated by The Playlist ) he reveals that he is in the design stages of a science fiction film that will be like “ The Fifth Element to the power of 10” that he intends to direct.
It seems that he’s keen to take advantage of the latest 3D and CGI technology: “When I did The Fifth Element , I already had the technological tools that were a little outdated. With the advent of digital technology, it is amazing what you can do. The technique has caught the imagination. One can imagine anything, there will always technicians to follow you in your delusion.” Pre-production will begin in 2011 and production could start in 2012 or 2013. Why so long? “Because it will be very, very big.”
