Holy Christ. Why is every single major holiday release getting pushed back to next year? There's been Crysis 2, Portal 2, FEAR 3, Final Fantasy XIV (PS3), and now LittleBigPlanet 2.
Yep, sorry to say it, SackFans, but you won't be toiling around with your new level creations until 2011. In a statement on developerMedia Molecule's website, the LBP2 team wrote, "we’ve all been working like powered-up space ninjas and we’re almost there, but because we love what we’ve made, and we love our little sack-friends, and most of all we love all our fans out there, we couldn’t let you all get together until we knew we were giving you the best experience imaginable."

The whole point of LittleBigPlanet was gamers could create their own games, essentially being able to sustain itself for eternity. So why is there a sequel at all? Well, LBP2 will take player imaginations away from just platformer gamers and allow them to create virtually anything at all - a shooter, an RPG, an adventure game, etc. And apparently creating a game that lets players make any game in the world... well, it takes a lot of time.
But the bigger story is how this is not just confined to the offices of high-concept Media Molecule. It seems like every big game that was planned for a holiday release is getting delayed.
Final Fantasy XIV,Portal 2,Socom 4, Crysis 2, and FEAR 3 are just a handful of titles that were originally planned to be out by the end of this year but have been pushed back to 2011.
Above: So no one will get to experience this on Christmas Day... yeah we have no idea what the hell it is either but it's in the LBP2 trailer

What is with this disturbing trend? Are game companies being pressured into tight deadlines more and more because of the sluggish economy? Is it because these companies have had to let people go and now can't complete their projects on time? Or are game developers just getting lazy? Nah... Whatever the reason, there will be a lot of sad Sackboys and Sackgirls this Christmas.
For now, the LBP2 delay is just until January, so just ask your parents for a gift card and you'll be able to cash in shortly after the holidays. Unless the game is delayed again, that is. But that almost never happens.
